Medellin is known to be one of the most populous cities and the second largest city in the country after the city of Bogota. Medellin was founded by Francisco Herrera and Don Campuzano. Land transportation is important in the city of Medellin. When traveling in the city of Medellin you have the option of traveling with the Metro Public transportation system. Medellin's Metro Public transportation system consists of diesel buses and taxis and an urban train. The urban train connects the cities of Medellin, Envigado, Itagui and Bello. There is also an air cable car that complements the urban train that is locally known as Metrocable. It serves a geographically difficult area that is known to be depressed. The traffic in Medellin is what you would call chaotic because of the number of vehicles that is on the highway. And exceeding the highways capacity. The diesel buses and the pollution produced by them have become a big problem and issue. This is noticed more in the center of the city and the southern district called El Poblado. The city offers no additional space for more constructions of new highways.

In the year 2006 the construction started for the Metroplus. This will help in allowing faster transit for buses and stations similar to Bogota's TransMilenio. This service will take place in 2008 covering almost all of the city area. This service will help out with the city's traffic problems and contamination problems. Most of the old buses will be retired and the new service buses with operate with natural gas. Air transportation is also used for many reasons in Medellin. International flights go through the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro a municipality of Medellin. This airport is much better suited for larger aircraft and night time operations. It has an international terminal that has daily international flights to and from the areas of Miami, Panama City, New York, Caracas, Quito, Aruba and a mixture of other important ant cities.

There are certain signs of heavy urban development in the city of Medellin, mainly with the construction of many new skyscrapers. The fact is Medellin is outpacing every other major Colombian city in the construction and in the development of new high rises that includes Bogota, known as the nation's capital and economic center. In November 2007, there were many new high rises that were under construction and going up in Medellin. One of these included twenty five being approved and seventeen of them being proposed. There are more high rises under construction in Medellin today than in cities such as Los Angeles, New York City and Philadelphia put all together.

Mexico City is, of course, the capital of the country and the most populous city in Mexico. It is by far the most important economic center, industrial center, and cultural center. There are nearly twenty million people that inhabit this large city making it the most populous city in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world. Mexico City is located in the Valley of Mexico, which is also called the Valley of Anahuac, which is located in the center of the country.

Mexico City is home to many historic landmarks and is a great traveling destination. There is, of course, the Historic Center of Mexico City and the floating gardens which can both be found in the southern boroughs of the city. These have both been declared World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Some of the famous landmarks that reside in the Historic Center include to Plaza de la Constitucion, the main central square with its oddly time clashing Spanish like era Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palacio Nacional. There are, of course, the ancient Aztec ruins and within a few steps of that the Templo Mayor, which is the tallest skyscraper in Latin America.

There are also an array of great museums and parks to visit while you are here. There is the Museum of Estanquillo or the Museum of Cartoons and Magazine, which should be a hit for any adult fans in the family and all the kids. Not far from here is the most recognizable icon and landmark of Mexico City, the Golden Angel of Independence. This Angel is found on the wide avenue Paseo de la Reforma, and was modeled by command of the Emporer Maximilian after the Champs Elysees in Paris. The avenue was also by design to specifically connect the National Palace, which is the seat of government, to the Castle of Chapultepec, which is the residence of the royalty. Today, it is still just as an important part of the city, housing the financial district. Any tourist would enjoy walking down this road for its historical importance and landmarks along the way.

Things to Do In Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a very important city in Colombia. This city has many nicknames such as The Heroic City, The Door to the Americas, Capital of the Caribbean, and several others. There is a wide variety of things to do here in Cartagena and it is also considered to be one of the more safe cities in Colombia. Like Bogota, Cartagena is a city that is divided into main sections. There is of course downtown, there is the northern section of town, the Matuna, San Diego, Bocagrande, and the Getseman neighborhood. These different areas are of course known for the different attractions and parts of the city that they house. Downtown is, of course, the heart of this city and the history of Cartagena can best be seen from here. The Northern part of town holds the airport and the old part of the city. The section of town referred to as San Diego is home to the Beaux Arts School Building and the Convent of the Nuns of the Order of Saint Claire. The part of town called Matuna is much like the business section of town and if you are staying here in Cartagena this is more than likely where your hotel would be found. The Getseman neighborhood is home to the Centennary Park and it commemorates a century of independence. So, as you can see, Cartagena is a grand city with many places to see and many different things to do!

Downtown is where you can find the most attractions of the city. If you get to visit nowhere else in the city, downtown should be your first stop. The style of things here in the downtown is a more colonial style with a little bit of Italian influence. There is an official entrance to downtown which is through Puerta del Reloj, or the Clock Gate. This Clock Gate comes out and onto the Plaza de los Coches or Square of the Carriages. Not but a moment's time from there is the Plaza de la Aduana or the Custom's Square, which is next to the mayor's office. Yet another Plaza not so very far from these points is the San Pedro Claver Square and of course his namesake's church. Here close to this Square is the Museum of Modern Art. As you travel along from here you will find the Plaza de Bolivar and the Palace of the Inquisition on one side. Not too much further from here you will find the office of Historical Archives which holds Cartagena's colorful history. Next to the Archives building you will find the Government Palace which, of course, holds the governor of the Department of Bolivar. If you travel across the street from this building you will find the Cathedral of Cartagena. If these religious temples interest you there is one more stop you should make in you journey around Cartagena. The Santo Domingo Church is a beautifully restored landmark and is worthy of the time taken to see it.

Traveling in Guadalajara, Mexico

Guadalajara is Mexico's second most populous city behind Mexico City and a huge tourist attraction. Guadalajara is located on the western Pacific region of Mexico. This is the twenty third largest metropolitan area in the Americas. It is the most densely populated are in Mexico only second to Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl. It is known for its favorable year round weather, having a spring like climate all year round due to its geological location. Guadalajara is by far one of the main centers in Mexico of culture, industry, history, and religion and significantly influences the rest of Mexico. This city has hosted several international events and was also named the American Capital of Culture in 2005. It was also named the first smart city in Mexico in 2006 due to its use of technology as a main factor in its development. Guadalajara has also been ranked city of the future over all with other major Mexican cities. This grand city is only second to Chicago in economic potential.

There is every sort of tourism here in Guadalajara. There is tourism for academics, entertainment, sports, and for the culture. Travel in Minas Gerais

Minas Gerais is the second most populous state in Brazil, but is only the fourth largest in area. Belo Horizonte is the capital city of this Brazilian state and is located in the central area of Minas Gerais. Minas Gerais is a very important state in Brazil due to all the various products that come from here. It is a main producer of coffee and milk. Minas Gerais is well known for all its architectural landmarks. In cities such as Ouro Preto and Tiradentes, there is a wealth of colonial art and these cities themselves are very historical. Tourist attraction in the southern end of this state are the hydro mineral ranches and the national parks of Ibitipoca and Aiuruoca. Minas Gerais is a state the holds mountains, valleys, caverns, caves, and waterfalls. This is a great vacationing destination.

The greatest vacationing spots in and around the state of Minas Gerais are out in the wilds. The waterfalls here in this state are some of the most breathtaking you can find anywhere in the world. The national park Serra da Canastra houses some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. Minas Gerais is also the source of some of the largest rivers in Brazil, the most notable one being the Sao Francisco and the Parana. This state is also home to many hydroelectric power plants.

Some of the highest peaks in Brazil are also found here in Minas Gerais. There are mountain ranges in the southern part of the state, such as the Serra da Mantiqueira and the Serra do Cervo. These ranges mark the borders between Minas Gerais and its neighbors Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The third highest mountain in Brazil, called the Pico da Bandeira, is located here in the southern zone of Minas Gerais. Also in the southern part of the state in the Zona da Mata, or the forest zone. This was once the richest part of this region until the mid twentieth century when it was then slowly converted into a more industrious region. Another national park if great interest to anyone touring this part of the country is the Serra do Cipo. This park is located not far from the capital city of Belo Horizonte, and is also known for its peaks and waterfalls.

If you are a traveler who is more interested in the city scene of the country, you will also be pleasantly surprised by the cities of Minas Gerais. Just as the rest of Brazil, football is the most popular sports amongst the locals by far. Belo Horizonte has two of the best teams in the country. Belo Horizonte is also home to one of the largest football stadiums in the world, and it is called the Mineirao. This stadium was opened in 1965 and is one attraction more than worth visiting whether you are a sports fan or not. However, there is an older stadium here as well named the Independencia Stadium where there was once a legendary victory of the United States World Cup Team over England in 1950. There have been many an important game played here in Belo Horizonte.

Mexico is a chiefly Spanish speaking country that is about three times larger than Texas. It has a rapidly growing economy and a large tourist industry. Since it is right next to the United States it is ideal for close vacationing trips. There are many cities in Mexico that have become popular destinations for United States citizens. There are, of course, some problems that may arise or serious inconveniences you may encounter if you decide to take a vacation to Mexico.

There have been known to be outbursts of politically motivated violence from time to time within Mexico. These outbursts are usually confined to areas such as Chiapas, Guerrero and Oaxaca. The United States Department of State recommends that United States citizens who find themselves traveling to or through the southern state of Chiapas to stay cautious at all times. There are sometimes armed rebels and civilian groups that are present throughout this state. There is also a deficiency of law enforcement in these areas or any sort of police protection. Along the southern border, the State Department warns of violent criminal gang activity, these groups are mostly aimed at illegal immigrants, however. The United States Embassy urges anyone who is traveling to these areas to please contact the Embassy for further security information before they travel.

American citizens are urged to remember that standards of security and safety may not be the same outside of our country. Not taking this into consideration may lead to automobile accidents and has led to other mishaps such as falls from balconies and drowning in the ocean. Traveling to Mexico may not be nearly as dangerous as some of the other countries you may choose to travel to, but it is always a good idea to remember to use common sense and a little more caution.

Crime in Mexico is always something to be warned about if you are planning a trip to this part of the world. Crime here in Mexico is often violent, especially in places like Mexico City, Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana, Acapulco, and Monterrey. A lot of this crime rate is due to the low apprehension and conviction rate. Basically, these people here are not afraid to commit these crimes due to rarely being caught or convicted. United States citizens are often targeted. If you are unfortunate enough to be the victim of a crime you are urged to report the incident to the nearest police headquarters along with the nearest United States Consular Office.

You are also urged while abroad to really check out products before you purchase them in Mexico. There are a lot of products that may be illegal under local law, in addition to hot or stolen items. However, if you exercise caution and good sense you should have an enjoyable trip outside of the United States. Be careful of foreigners trying to scam you while abroad! Traveling to Colombia

Colombia is the second most populated country in South America. Colombia has a very diverse geological setting, from rivers and rainforest to mountains and rugged terrain. The tourist facilities in Colombia are varying in quality and safety in accordance to the price and their location. So when traveling to Colombia you must make sure you do a proper background check to the places you will be arriving at, your hotels, and your rental places for your own safety.

There are a few things U.S. citizens and all other non Colombian citizens must do before they are allowed to enter the country. One must, of course, be able to show a valid passport to enter and leave Colombia. U.S. passports that are issued from Colombia can take up to eight days for processing, and under certain circumstances, considerably longer than that. The easiest way to get around this, of course, is to obtain your passport before leaving the United States or the country in which you reside.

As it goes with many other countries, your stay in Colombia will be determined by a Colombian immigrations officer and will be stamped into your passport. You will be able to request extensions of time you are allowed to stay if need be from the Colombian Immigration Authority. This department is known as the DAS or Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad. If you are planning on staying longer than three months' time in Colombia you must register you VISA within fifteen days time of your arrival in Colombia, and this must be done at the Departmento Administrativo de Seguridad. If this is not done you may have to face some hefty fines while abroad. There is no tax upon your arrival in Colombia for entry, however, you must pay a tax of around sixty dollars upon your leaving Colombia. There are some airlines that will include a portion of this tax for you in with your tickets, so be sure to check with your airline before you leave to see if this will apply for you.

Try not to lose your passport while you are abroad or you will be forced to obtain a new one before you are allowed to leave. If your passport happens to be stolen while you are abroad, you will have to file a police report and of course wait for a new one to come in. You will not be allowed to exit the country unless you are able to show your passport, with no exceptions.

The Secretary of State has identified three Colombian groups that may pose a threat to travelers, The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia FARC, the National Liberation Army ELN, and United Self Defense Forces of Colombia AUC. These organizations are all recognized as foreign terrorist groups. These groups have been known to carry out bombings and other attacks around major urban areas, even with civilian targets. However, within the last four years these happenings have decreased. There have been fewer cases of kidnappings, bombings, and other violent crimes. There is still reason for the traveler abroad to very cautious when traveling to certain areas.

Located in northern Colombia, Santa Marta is on the Caribbean and is a popular tourist attraction for the country. This is a very important maritime port with rich history and culture. This wonderful city was the first city to be founded in Colombia and the second city founded in all of South America, which is another reason it is a great place for tourism, due to its extensive history. However, like most major cities in Colombia, it has been affected by the Colombian Armed Conflict. Fortunately, it has only been moderately affected unlike cities like Bogota which have been largely affected.

Santa Marta may very well be the biggest hot spot for tourism in the country of Colombia. It has quite the array of historical and modern sights to see as well as many sights for the eco-tourist. Every year Las Fiestas del Mar, or The Festival of the Sea, is celebrated here in Santa Marta. This festival is held around the months of June and July and serves as a large tourist attraction during the midyear vacationing season. One of the most anticipated events here every year is the jet ski show organized by the Santa Marta Esqui. Like most other South American festivals there are parties, music, beauty pageants, and parades throughout the city. People here in this part of the world are very serious about their celebrations! This particular festival even has its own slogan: Santa Marta, la magica de tenerlo todo, or in translation, Santa Marta, the magic of having it all!

Of course you can find other museums, monuments, and parks within this gorgeous city. The last home of the city's founder, Simon Bolivar, was made into a museum for his honor. Here you will find many artifacts that are important to the history of this city and to South America. One of the oldest Cathedrals in South America may also be found here. This Cathedral is a national monument and also held the remains of Simon Bolivar until 1842. Here you will also find the oldest house of America, built in 1530; it is called La Casa de la Aduana or simply the Customs House. Today it is actually known as the Tayrona Museum, and is one of the more popular tourist sights. Here in Santa Marta you can also find the building which is known as the jewel of colonial architecture. This building is known as the Madame Augustine House. Close outside the city you will find the San Fernando Fort which is another great example of colonial architecture. It was built to protect the city from pirates and the like. Of course, a trip to Santa Marta would not be complete without visiting the Tairona National Park, which is located about thirty four kilometers north of Santa Marta. This reserve is by far the most important one inside the country of Colombia and holds vast beauty for the locals and the traveler abroad.

Theme Parks in France

There comes a point when you have seen enough restaurants, monuments, and other typical tourist attractions. Children especially may not find these too exciting. France offers quite a few theme parks to keep families happy. They can be located throughout the country and differ in size and themes.

You do not have to be in North America to enjoy Disneyland. Disneyland Resort Paris includes two theme parks. It opened in April of 1992 and was the second Disney resort to open outside of the United States. It is one of Europe's biggest tourist destinations. The first theme park is based off the original park in California. It is the largest based on the original with more than 140 acres. Walt Disney Studios Park is another spot to visit. Other than the theme parks, there is an entertainment district that has many restaurants, shops, and other venues. This stays open after the park closes, so your fun does not have to end until you want it. There is also Golf Disneyland which offers 9 hole and 18 hole courses.

You may not want to see Disneyland since you could see it in the United States whenever you wish. Another fun theme park to visit is Parc Astrix. The theme park is based on the stories of Astrix. Astrix is a series of French comic books. The park is located 20 miles north of Paris, in the city of Plailly. If you enjoy roller coasters, this is the park for you since it is known for its large variety of roller coasters to choose from. Other features of the park include a swinging ship, a rapid river ride, and a haunted mansion that has special effects. It used to be open only from April until October, but since 2007 the park is also open in the winter.

Puy du Fou theme park is the second most visited attraction in France after Disneyland Paris. Puy du Fou is a historical theme park that is located in Western France in the city of Les Epesses. The theme park has five attractions to choose from. One of the attractions is known as The Vikings. It is a set reconstructed from a 1000 year old fortress. Gladiators are another part of the park. It takes place in a replica of a coliseum in Rome. The show consists of traditional parades, chariot racing, and executions. There are many other shows to be entertained by when visiting the park.

One other park that can be fun for the whole family is located in Lower Normandy, France. Parc Festyland has a theme that is both in its rides and restaurants. A lot of the park has to do with Vikings. You will find roller coasters, bumper cars, and a water slide.

Traveling in Santiago de Cali, Colombia

Santiago de Cali is also referred to as Cali for short here in the country of Colombia. This city is the main municipality and capital of the Valle del Cauca, which is a department in western Colombia. Cali is the third largest city in Colombia with a population of over two million. It is home to the fastest growing economy in the country and is a very significant reference point because of its geographic location. The first part of this great city's name is in honor to the apostle Saint James. Just as in many South American cities it has many cathedrals and important religious temples. A humorous side not for this now notoriously large city is that its beginning population, for quite some time, was no more than seventeen people.

This is another great South American city to find yourself visiting if you are a sports fan. As a matter of fact, it is the sports capital of Colombia. In the same year that this great city was named the sports capital of Colombia, they also finished the construction of the second largest building in Colombia. This building is known as the La Torre de Cali, or the Cali Tower. This gigantic building houses a hotel, offices and even apartment complexes. It stands forty two floors above the city and is a wonderful stop on any vacationing trip here to Colombia. You can even reserve a room in the hotel here at this great tower, but plan ahead because it becomes booked for months in advance!

Santiago de Cali is home to a vast array of historical tourism. There are a great and many attractions here in downtown Cali such as churches like the La Merced and La Ermita, which are very popular sights. These historical sights are so very popular because of the preservation of the old city and other historical land marks. One of the most important zones here in Cali is La Plaza de Caycedo, which is considered by locals and tourists alike to be the center of the city. It is a square surrounded by an array of both historical and modern buildings. Some of the important buildings surrounding this square are the El Edificio Otero, La Cathedral, and El Palacio de Justicia. This Plaza is in proximity to many popular tourist places like the municipal theater, the La Merced Church, and the Saint Francis' church in Spanish Iglesia de San Francisco. All these sights are highly acclaimed by the locals and tourists alike and a re a great place for any foreigner to stop and check out.

Cali is also a city that has many various monuments, parks, squares, and museums that are all very well kept, as this is one of the cleaner cities in Colombia. They are a few very famous sculptures within this city such as the Cristo Rey, which is located on top of a mountain range. There is also the sculpture of Sebastian se Belalcazar, who was founder of the city.

Traveling in Morelia, Mexico

Morelia is known to be one of the colonial jewels of the country. It became a World Heritage Site in 1991. It is the capital of the Mexican state Michoacan de Ocampo. Morelia is one of the cleanest cities in Mexico and is proclaimed for its great city wide beauty. It is surrounded by rolling hills and also renowned for the beautiful country side that surrounds it. This is another great city for eco-tourists. It is a great city for any tourist!

The whole of Morelia's downtown is a historic adventure. It covers about one hundred and fifty city blocks and contains over one thousand historic buildings. There is without a doubt a lot to see here in this city. You will need to take a week or so vacation to be able to cover all the things that there are to see throughout this beautiful city! The city is best known for the magnificence of its monuments which, of course, are mostly colonial. The main buildings of attraction are the Baroque Cathedral, the convent of San Francisco, the convent of San Agustin, and also the college and temple of La Compania de Jesus which is also know as the Palacio Clavijero. There is also the convent of El Carmen and the convent of Santa Catarina. So, if you are a religious type of person who wants to appreciate some of the most beautiful temples ever built in honor of Jesus and the Saints, Morelia is a perfect destination.

There are plenty of other structures and convents which should also be praised for their architecture and design which are only slightly less well known. These buildings include the convent of La Merced, the college of Santa Rosa Maria, the Palace of the Executive, the eighteenth century palaces of the Legislature and Judiciary, the college Primitivo y Nacional de San Nicolas de Hidalgo, the Museum Michoacano. There is, of course, the house where Jose Maria Morelos was born whom was a founder of the city. This house is now used as a museum, library and other cultural events.

If you are interested in seeing high quality art works you will want to visit the Casa de las Artesanias. Along with many other great museums in the town to see. There are also a great and many churches in the other parts of town that are noteworthy and proclaimed by the locals to be a must see. There is the Templo de las Rosas which is annex to the Conservatorio de las Rosas. Both of these buildings are wonderful examples of baroque style of architecture. Then last but not least there is the Templo de San Diego which was built as an interpretation of the Rococo style using indigenous colors and an indigenous technique.

This is a great city for eco-tourism of the city kind. There is also the benefit of the beautiful country side. This is a vacationing spot that is much more laid back than some of the other cities of Mexico. It is also another one of the safe places in Mexico to vacation to. The crime rates are very low here!

Barranquilla is located in northern Colombia and is known as Colombia's Golden State.

Barranquilla is the fourth largest city in Colombia and is strategically placed on the delta of the Magdalena River and has served as a port for maritime transportation. This city is also known as the cradle of Colombian aviation. Barranquilla is also home to a beautiful picturesque carnival.

Barranquilla is a beautiful city with many rich cultural activities to get involved in, especially if you at the right time of year. As with many other South American cities, Barranquilla is home to a fantastic, world renowned carnival, known simple as the Carnaval de Barranquilla. This carnival is one with traditions that date back to the nineteenth century. This carnival takes place four days before Ash Wednesday. During this monstrous carnival, most other city activities are stopped in their tracks due to the enormous amount of people in the streets dancing, performing musical masquerades and parades. This carnival is second only in size to Rio's parade, but is much less commercialized in comparison. There are many cultural dances and themes you may only find involved in this carnival, such as the Spanish dance of paloteo. There are also great dances like the African Congo and the mico y micas. There is a great and wide variety of Colombian music performed here at the carnival, such as the cumbia style of music. This style includes a variety of drums and wind instruments and ensembles. This carnival was proclaimed in the year 2003 as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Even though the carnival takes the cake for the city's main tourist attraction there are still other great things to do in this beautiful city. There is a great appreciation for the fine arts here in the city of Barranquilla. The main cultural scene in the city can be found at the Teatro Municipal Amira de la Rosa. Barranquilla is also home to other great cultural buildings such as the Cinemateca del Caribe, Centro Cultural Avianca, Centro Colombo Americano, and the Alliance Franaise which, of course, belongs to the Barranquilla chapter.

Here in Barranquilla, there are also many end of the year festivities which they start planning for in November, and sometimes even as early as October. Christmas, or Navidad in Spanish, is not only a widely celebrated holiday, but the holiest of days to the Spanish and other inhabitants of all South American countries and cities. The whole city of Barranquilla is transformed into a gorgeous city of lights and nativity scenes with parties every weekend of December to boot! If you are planning on coming to this part of the world for a vacation, December is a great time of the year to see this amazing city. It is especially a great time if you enjoy Christmas as much as the natives to this city!

Festivals in Germany

Germany holds some of the largest festivals in the world. They are throughout the year and are held all over the country. They consist about anything you can think of from music to the beloved beer. There is something to do for the whole family, so while making your plans to visit Germany, and why not see if there will be any festivals happening while you are there. The largest public festival in the world is Oktoberfest. It is held in Munich and is a 16 day event that starts at the end of September. The festival has more than 6 million people attend, who drink over 5 million liters of beer and eat 200,000 pairs of sausages. There are roller coasters and carousals in the Theresienwiese fairgrounds for the children who come with the adults. Music is provided by numerous brass bands that wear the traditional outfits of lederhosen and dirndls.

In Berlin, the Carnival of the Cultures is a four day festival that celebrates the cities diversity. In the past more than 200 million people visited the festival within its four days. It started in 1996, and has turned into a big event since over 400,000 citizens of the city are from over 200 countries throughout the world. The highlight of the festival is the Whitsuntide street parade which consists of street dancers, jugglers, and floats. There is also a children's festival that takes place nearby in Goerlitzer Park which is specifically aimed towards children.

One of the biggest music festivals in northern Germany is Lake Maschsee Festival. This festival is the kickoff to 20 days of events that have been nicknamed "the longest party mile in northern Germany". Millions of people come to enjoy music, food, and comedians. There are also clowns, and street parades which run down to the lake. People of all ages will have a wonderful time. The local parks hold special events for children. Fireworks kick the festival off, and another firework show ends the festival after the 20 days.

If you love Jazz music, be sure to go to the Baltic Sea Jazz Festival which is held in Rostock. Over 25 bands perform which includes many international jazz musicians that play in different styles. The festival is held in numerous venues and even includes a concert for children to enjoy. The Fete de la Musique concert which happens at the festival is an open air event that takes place in the beautiful gardens of the Holy Cross Abbey.

Rio de Janeiro is located on the southeast coast of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is one of the smaller of the twenty six states of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is, of course, famous for its amazing natural setting along with its carnival celebrations, samba, and beaches such as the Copacabana the Ipanema. These beaches are a great travel venue, as they are decorated with creamy swirled pattern mosaics. Along with the other famous landmarks here in the city of Rio de Janeiro, there is the giant statue of Jesus, which is also know as Christ the Redeemer. This statue is located on top of the Corcovado Mountain, and has just been recently named one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Carnival of Rio De Janeiro is one of the most famous to take place anywhere in the world. So, if you find yourself traveling to this part of the world, you would surely want to take advantage of this wonderful spectacle. The carnival usually takes place in the first weeks of May and is an international event.

The city of Rio de Janeiro is also home to one of the world's largest football stadiums. If you happen to be a fan of sports, this would be a must on a vacation to this city. Not only does is support one of the largest football stadiums, but it also houses the two largest forests inside an urban area. There is the forest in the Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca or the White Stone State Park, and located nearly in a connected fashion to this first park is the famous Floresta da Tijuca or the Tijuca Forest. Driving in Colombia

If you decide to rent a car and drive yourself around while in Colombia, there a few things to take into consideration. As in many other countries and nations, driving can be quite a different experience from what it is here in the United States. It is very important that a traveler abroad remembers this. In the United States we have set traffic laws and officers who enforce them, which is not necessarily so in Colombia. This makes driving in Colombia something comparable to one of our televised car races here in the States.

Traffic laws and speed limits are rarely observed or obeyed and even more rarely enforced as I have already mentioned. This creates much more dangerous road conditions than what we will ever be used to here in the states. The conditions make city driving dangerous for both driver and pedestrian and out of city driving just as dangerous. So, you would also do well to remember that if you are on foot in the city for very long, to watch out for the drivers because it seems the pedestrian does not have the right of way here in Colombia. The law concerning seat belts is the same as it is here in the states. Seat belts are a mandatory thing for front seat passengers. However, car seats are not mandatory for children, but children under ten are not permitted to be front seat passengers. It is also against the law to talk on your cellular phone while driving in Colombia and if you are caught doing so you could be up for some hefty fines.

If you are driving outside any major city at any time you must travel with your head lights on. It does not matter if it is day or night, this is a must requirement in Colombia. If you do happen do get involved in an accident the usual rules apply. You must not leave the scene of the accident until proper authorities have arrived and everything is sorted out, much like it is done here in the United States. This is another one of their rules that is strictly enforced, so if you do find yourself in this situation by some means please follow their rules.

Luckily for the American traveler road safety and security is slowly improving in some places, especially around the major cities like Bogota. However, the U.S. Embassy highly recommends that you do no traveling outside of major cities or urban areas, whether by bus or car. The Colombian Government has made extra efforts and taken extra precautions during holidays for travelers from all over the world, but outside those periods of time it is still not entirely safe for anyone to be driving around on their roads. There is also the danger of the guerrilla and paramilitary groups and even the common criminal being out on these urban roads which makes them dangerous in that way as well. So just remember to exercise extreme caution and safety if you decide to travel these roads on your own.

Here in Colombia there is, unfortunately, some social unrest and disorder in places. Luckily, in the last few years some of these crime statistics have dropped in their frequency. The best thing to do when traveling in a country outside of your own is to use common sense and safety no matter what.

ATM machines, or Automatic Teller Machines, seem to be a recent hot spot for crime in the country of Colombia. If you have to use an ATM, please exercise caution. Victims have reported robbers even approaching them on motorcycles so that they may quickly flee the scene after they have committed the robbery. So, if it is at all possible for you to do while abroad, use an ATM machine that is indoors and preferably in a well populated area. If this cannot be done, please try to use outdoor ATMs only during daylight hours. The U.S. embassy also urges American travelers that are abroad to use a vehicle for transportation rather than walking. Of course, if you have a very short distance to your next destination, it is understandable to walk. The U.S. Embassy even warns the American traveler abroad to keep a watchful eye out for anyone who may be following you or keeping a watchful eye on you. They also put out the message to the traveler that if you do happen to fall victim to the crime of robbery, if you do not fear for your life or think you are going to sustain serious bodily injury that you should not resist your assailant. Most of these people that commit these crimes are merely trying to make some quick cash from the tourist and usually not out to harm. However, there is a much greater chance that you may be killed or harmed if you resist.

There is another serious problem that has been recently centered in Bogota. This robbery has victimized the tourist hailing a cab, which is picked up first, and then robbed by criminals the cab driver picks up afterwards. The cab drivers are usually in on this as well. The armed cohorts the driver picks up overpower the unsuspecting traveler and take their belongings. They have even been known to take the travelers ATM card and force them to go from ATM to ATM withdrawing money. So, it is a great idea to take advantage of calling a cab by telephone since there have been no cases of this type of crime from someone calling in a taxi. Only travelers hailing taxis off the street have been victimized by this crime. If you are traveling in Colombia it is a great idea for you to escort yourself around and to stay in public places at all times.

Please exercise caution and good sense if you are planning on traveling abroad to Colombia. The country has many interesting and beautiful sites, but the cities can be quite dangerous. Be careful in your travels.
