Ski Resorts in Germany

Planning a visit to Germany does not have to be limited to the warmer months. Germany offers many ski resorts to choose from. There is something for everyone's taste. Glacier skiing, world cup races, along with mountain hideaways and cosmopolitan resorts are just a few of the options that await you. Since Germany is located in central Europe, most of the resorts have easy access to passenger and scheduled flights. There is nothing stopping you from taking a short trip to the Alps.

Boasting being Germany's number one ski resort is the ski town of Garmisch Partenkirchen. The town is proud of hosting the Olympics in the 1930s. The two areas of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were combined together during the Olympics and since have had many tourists. Over 5 million tourists sleep overnight a year at all of the hotels in the area. The main ski area is over the town on the Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Osterfelder runs. The main town runs are easy to access by foot, bus, and train, while the glacier runs will need to be accessed by train, bus, or a cable car. There are many hotels to choose from, so before booking do some research on which would fit your needs to best.

If you are looking for a more secluded resort, try the Berchtesgaden area. Here you will find a ski resort on the outskirts of the Berchtesgaden National Forest. You will be able to ski and view beautiful scenery at the same time. There are some symbols of Germany's darkened past that are visible from the ski resort. One of these is the "Eagle's Nest". This was Hitler's mountain refuge in World War II. Tourists come throughout the year to see it. The Jenner ski area is the most known and largest in the Berchtesgaden area and can be easily accessed by bus. You will be able to find hotels within the city and in some parts of the countryside.

In the small village of Oberammergau skiers will be able to enjoy a decent amount of skiing even if it cannot compare to the larger resorts in the south. Skiers can take in the beauty on one of the runs on the Laber Mountain which is behind the town. The main ski area is located across the road at the Kolben area and has a selection that is easier for beginners and intermediates. There are many places to choose from to stay overnight because of all the attractions in the area. This is a great spot if you want to get the true German feel with the locals.

There are many ski resorts to choose from. You can view information about each resort before booking. This way you will be able to find the perfect one. Each resort offers something new. It depends on how well you ski, and the area you want to visit. These areas are opened year round for people to visit. In the summer they can see the towns and the nature around. When you are planning your trip to Germany consider spending sometime at one of the resorts. Even if you are not an avid skier, you can still have fun learning.
